The input of freelancers is like salt in soup. But what makes a good freelancer? In the interview series "Text Whispers," Sabine Fäth, founder of SCRIBERS[HUB], asks all those who value working with freelancers.
This time with Silvia Göttel, owner of tailormade communications.
1. In what situation do you hire a freelance copywriter/journalist/author and why?
At tailormade communications, the name says it all: We offer high-quality, customized solutions for corporate communications, even complex ones. My partner and I work very closely with a small, dedicated team. We place great emphasis on providing our clients with the best specialist expertise in every area. If we don't have the necessary expertise ourselves, we bring in a freelance expert to join the project team, depending on the specific requirements of the project. This also applies, of course, when our own resources are fully utilized.
2. Are there situations where your own network is insufficient for finding a freelancer? What are they?
When projects are unexpectedly commissioned or expanded, it can always happen that there's a lack of capacity or that the usual freelancers are fully booked. In such cases, I search on LinkedIn or other research sources, such as SCRIBERS[HUB].
3. What was your best experience with a freelance copywriter/journalist/author and why?
We've never had a bad experience so far and have always gained interesting new insights and learned a lot. This is perhaps because we thoroughly review references and consider each individual's personality.
4. The advice I would absolutely give to freelance copywriters/journalists/authors is:
Please always stay grounded in reality. Don't exaggerate or demonstrate skills that you ultimately can't master.
5. My most important principle when dealing with freelancers is:…
As always: be open and fair and communicate on equal terms!
6. What do you wish for in your collaboration with freelancers to ensure smooth cooperation?
Absolute reliability regarding deadlines, and loyalty regarding contact and cooperation with customers.
